Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it? If you have an old msn did you try uninstalling it and installing windows live messenger again? And if that didn't work go to http://www.download.com or http://www.microsoft.com or http://www.msn.com or search in http://www.google.com and download it.Maybe your computer isn't genuine or you need windows vista.

Try to get the latest update for your computer and you can get msn from www.microsoft.com itself.

Do you have XP service pack 2 installed? Make sure all your patches and updates are installed and then trying installing live messenger.
