maybe he/she has a virus on their msn and so when he signs on your computer might not be protected from it. Thats all i can say this is just a guess.

It might be your friend's messenger. Ask him nicely to reinstall it, and if it doesn't work, let one of you try a all-messenger program such as Pidgin.
