  • Answer:

MSN has always allowed one-way cam. It could just be that your contacts ticked the "hide my webcam" box in the options menu

As far as I know, MSN has always ALLOWED one-way, they just really push bidirectional (which is stupid, two webcams makes them both slower). In fairly recent versions - I don't think I've tried 9, I mostly stopped using Windows last September - I didn't have a webcam, and I know people could open a video chat or something with me (which was two-directions and would give a "Problem with your webcam!" kind of error), and there was a Show My Webcam / View This Contact's Webcam command, which was one way. Look around. If stuff still works the same, at the very worst she can do the bidirectional thing and just not have a webcam connected... At these times I was still able to watch someone's webcam, I think it just complained a lot, I think even stopping the connection sometimes (although that could have been my contact ending it).
