    Just above the chat section in the gmail page, you should see "Contacts" Click on it. Browse through "All Contacts" and find your friend... Click his/her name You will see beside "Show in Chat List" that they are blocked. Click on the drop down menu, and select Auto or Always, depending on what you want to happen... Et Voila, they will be added magically back into your chat list. Keep on Googlin'

listen i don't know how to unblock the person.but u can try this out, which i once did when i faced the same problem. delete the person from your friend list and tell him to delete u from his friend list...then again send a fresh friend request to him and tell him to accept the request. u will b able to chat with him again..........
