How can i foster or adopt a child?

How exactly would it help "poor children" to be adopted by poor adults? Get a job, get stable, focus on YOURSELVES for awhile, and then maybe consider it.

You aren't allowed to adopt if you are unemployed.

Before adopting, please consider your reasons for doing so. Adopting a child with the intention to "rescue" them, sets them up for some really difficult situations, including the ongoing pressure to feel "grateful" to you. Please remember that they are not asking to be adopted. Just a thought.

If you have lots of money in the bank---like an inheritance and can show the work who does the home study jump on in---employment is not the requirement but the money is. And you have to show that upi have more than enough money. We have encountered this before --nothing new. Call the state agency and see what you can find out.

Without any income at all from either partner, it's highly unlikely you would be allowed to adopt or foster. I think your chances are slim unless/until one or both of you were to become employed. You have to be able to demonstrate that you can support yourselves and your adopted child, not just today and tomorrow, but for the long-term and including in emergencies, and I doubt an unemployed couple has the ability to do that unless you're sitting on an enormous savings nest egg... which it doesn't sound like, from how you phrased your question. Foster parents have to prove that they can support their own families without their potential fostering subsidies, to try to ensure that foster children will not be exploited and neglected for money. You can't count on the subsidy as income because it is to be used for the foster child only, and you have to be financially stable. So for a couple where both partners are unemployed, fostering is also highly unlikely. I also think you need to carefully consider your motivations. Adoption is about becoming parents, not a charitable project. No one wants to be the "poor child" taken in out of duty... they want a mom and dad who love and cherish them. Foster children too require a huge commitment of love and effort, even though they usually don't stay in your home permanently. Fostering is also very different from adoption, and the fact you seem not to distinguish between them makes me think you haven't really thought this through. If you want to help poor children, then find a volunteer program where you can mentor, tutor, work at a food bank, teach parenting classes, etc. Adoption is not charity.

You do understand that your ages and finances come into play when you adopt, right? You must be in good health, both of you. You must have a certain level of income. You must be married in many cases. I would say if you want to help someone, donate money to a charity, but since you are jobless, that might be hard. I would suggest spending time helping out with a charity, because that is more valuable than money to many charities. You can call your local Goodwill and they should have information on what you can do. If you are truly serious about adopting, you will call your local foster care agency and find out the requirements. Without knowing your whole situation, this is the best advice I can give.
