How do you get started dirt track racing? What are the steps?

Find a track you want to race at. Hang out in the pit area for a few races and figure out which division best appeals to you and your wallet. Add up the price tag on all this - helmet, driver's suit and other saftey gear, tow vehicle, some kind of trailer, race car, spare parts, tools, and pit equipment. It's easy to spend 5 to 10 thousand dollars even before you see the race track. A used street stock can be had for around $1500 without an engine. Trailer prices can vary, but hard to get a nice one for less than $1,000. Getting a rulebook first is a very good idea. The price to get in can be steep, but once you start racing and don't tear stuff up, it's not too bad. The biggest trouble I encountered when I started was just getting a solid, reliable engine under the hood so I could pay attention to everything else.
