When snowboarding, what conditions are better?

depends on everyone. I grew up acustomed to the ice so really hardpacked conditions are my favorite, then spring snow, then powder, then just packed snow

I don't who prefers to have board ruining, slippery, painful ice over white fluffy fun pow pow. I unfortunately live on the east coast where all you can expect is ice but i was out in park city and got 3 feet of the good stuff. Best experience of my life.

163? You must be tall son. I live in New York and ride in New Jersey and it's usually very icy, it sucks. Fresh snow is nice, but after a snowstorm it's usually too slow for me and it's harder to hit jumps. I like it a few days after a storm so theres no ice, the snow is packed, and it's still a little nice and powdery

All snow conditions are great, you just need to learn how to handle each one. Hard pack and ice are unbeatable for acceleration and high speed - that's where your 163cm board will excel. Sure, pow is easier to handle and is forgiving on wipeouts, but it just doesn't give you a ton of speed unless you're in Utah and going down a steep drop. Spring slush is good too - it's not quite pow, but it allows for a decent grip and makes moguls easy to navigate at higher speeds. South of NY you sort of have to learn to enjoy whatever mother nature throws your way, ice, snow, or rain. Three cheers for Ice Coast!
