What type of Snowboard should I get him?

  • I'm getting my husband a snowboard for Chirstmas and IDK what kind to get him. He is 6ft. weights about 200 pounds and has only snowboarded 5 times.

  • Answer:

The best thing to do would be to take him to a ski/board shop and have him fitted for a board, boots, etc. Even if you knew what size to get him, guys are very particular in brands and styles/colors that they like.

yes let him pick it out. BURTON is a fantastic brand and the most awesome snowboard ive ever had . Just consider this: if he isn't very good yet, think about getting him a cheep one that he can scratch/bang up and once he gets better then get him a better brand. That's what i did i got a cheep one for about a year and then next winter a went all out and got a really awesome board.

Have him pick out the board he likes. The other guy said it right. On the other hand, I would really recommend GNU or Lib-Tech. Both of these are owned by quicksilver and they have the best boards. I used to ride Burton and Ride, but ever since I got at LT Travis Rice, I will never buy another brand again. Try to get a board with Magne-traction and Reverse camber. Google it to figure out what they are. I thought it was just a marketing ploy but after 1 min on my new board, I was sold for life.

I would suggest a snowboard made by Ride, Burton, or K2. Those are all quality boards that hold up well. No need to buy the most expensive board, especially as a novice, so stick with their lower-end, cheaper boards. I would suggest buying a freeride board, which offers the most versatility. They are good boards for anywhere on the mountain (slopes, parks, back-country, etc). Most decal label list what type of board it is. I would also suggest a snowboard in the size range of 160-164cm. That should be a good board length for his weight.
