Help with the Double loop in figure skating?

Double Toe Loop: Figure Skating?

  • I am working on my double toe loop, and I can rotate in the air but I just can't cross my legs. Which makes me end up on two feet. Does anybody have any tips???????? ...show more

  • Answer:

try doing regular toe loops with backspins. land your toe loop and do a backspin. try jumping out of it. this will help your technique and hopefully your leg crossing problem. also, if you have a jump harness at your rink, ask your coach if he/she could help you with it in the jump harness. your coach always knows best! :)

it soundds like all you need to do is get the snap of the hips. try doing "fake" doubble toes which is do it in slow motion pick, follow through with the right foot and snap into a back scrach. you could also try attempting double toe wallys, thoes are sometimes easier for people to get :) BEST WISHESS!

TER-terKABOOM!!

Try doing a HUGE single and think of over exaggeration crossing your feet over. Because if you think its crossing too much, it is probably crossing very little, but enough. Reverse psycology!

To cross your legs, have both knees face forward and think about crossing your ANKLES. Pick up your free knee and hip in the air. It sounds like you're not getting all the way over into the backspin position - watch your free shoulder. If it's opening up, that's going to make you lean to the free side, causing a two-footed landing. Have someone video you and watch your posture - if you're breaking at the waist (leaning forward) in the air, that will slow rotation. You might not be getting the full two revolutions that you think you're managing to complete.

i was having the same problem with my axle a couple months ago but all better now! ha one reeeeally good technique that helped was this: simply skate backwards straight down the rink and find that position that you hold with your foot in as if you were in the air.......and just hold it. its harder than it seems and it really helps. it helps keep your ankles tight, your body feels what it's suppose to feel like in the air, and then you have more control over the jump. just have everything pulled in as tight as it can and when you feel you're about to stop, 'lift' your foot and check out. this should help fix your problem and when warming up for your dtoe, just skate on your edge and pull in like for a jump and just see how long you can hold it. then do the jump right away after that. it improves your jump dramatically.

it depends what you want to do. just the jump, or the right technique. with the right technique (crossing your feet), it will help the rest of your double jumps in the rotation and tightness of the jump. if you want to cross your feet, you need to restart from the beginning. so thats practicing single toe loops while crossing your feet. the when youre comfortable, you can start the doubles.
