How to do a scratch spin?

How to center a Scratch Spin on ice?

  • I know my entrance, I go in from a left outside edge, my coach said its great, but every so often my spin will travel, what can I do to keep it centered?

  • Answer:

Try to stay on the ball of your foot, or else, you'll travel. Also, make sure that you have a strong posture and that make at least a 3/4 of a circle at the entrance, it helped me to center my scratch spin correctly. I had the same trouble (traveling) on my scratch spin at first, but I figured out that you have to make sure that you are centered before closing. In other words, try spinning in the star position as long as you can and then you can practice closing your arms and your free leg, while staying on the ball of your foot.
