How do I make my nose stop running on the ice?

Whenever I figure skate (which is everyday) my nose starts running ridiculously. And when I jump or spin... well you can imagine. I blow my nose and wear adequate clothes but nothing ...show more

Answer:
I think it's an age-old conundrum of skaters. Every skater has their things they take on the ice with them.....which usually includes tissues! Even Michelle Kwan in one of her books commented, "Never ask to borrow a skater's gloves," cuz we all know their secondary function while on the ice. They double as Kleenex! The worst is when you spin and you spin so fast that, well, you don't really need to blow your nose anymore....gravity took care of it! Just hope nobody was standing close enough to get hit! Maybe try taking cold or allergy medicine that stops runny noses. The only problem with that is they usually dry you out and make you thirsty. I think it's probably not that you're not dressing warm enough, it is the temperature change from being at room temperature, going into a rink, which is usually around 55-degrees. That cold condenses all the junk in your sinuses and then let the flood gates open! :)

Tell it it will slip and fall if it doesn't watch out. It sounds to me like it just wants to skate and have fun with you. Don't blow it when it behaves badly. That will only encourage it.

You don't. It's normal. Why do you think there's usually a box of Kleenex next to the skater's water bottle? Another thing that's normal is 'passing gas' while doing double & triple jumps.

I guess its normal at that temperature.... just keep on blowing your nose.
okay, okay
I know I sk8 sunday, monday, tuesday, wendsday, thursday, and Friday and I cant get it to stop to. My nose runs like crazy and people tell me my nose is running and I know. I honestly dont think it is possible to make it stop. My nose runs all the time on the is, its kind of imbarising, but if you think about it everyones nose is running out there, even if they dont admit it.

I think that every Figure Skater has that problem, including myself. Make sure you warm up properly and blow your nose before you get on the ice. There are also many allergy or cold medicines that you could try. Make sure you bring tissues with you on the ice, is your best hope. Then just blow your noce when you need to, it only takes a second.

Couple of things....have you tried saline sprays, they feel wonderful and do a pretty good job of cleaning out your sinuses before you go onto the ice, the only other think I would recomend is Benadryl. It really dries you out but can also make you drowsy.
