This might cost a little more but a good first time is in Canada. Lake lousie is a brilliant. So is whistler... loads more. look for ski hills in the rockies Sam H

Bulgaria offers good, cheap skiing for first timers. If you want to spend a bit more, Trento in Italy is fabulous. As is Mayrhofen or St Johan in Austria.
