Ski binding for my new twin tip skis?

  • I just bought K2 Silencer in a 169 cm... Im mostly a groomer and enjoy half day at the parks.. What kind of binding should I get with my budget being 100-150$ and should i center ...show more

  • Answer:

For an all mountain ski I would mount back 2 cm from center. You will still get the benefit of center but better carving on the groomers. As for the binding, Its a little hard to tell with out more info such as how much you weigh but a few to look for might be the Salomon Z 10 ti, STH 12, Marker Griffon. Its a great time to look for sales.

There's a lot of great deals out right now on bindings, especially as the season is wearing down. Most local ski shops will certainly be running deals trying to clear out merchandise for their summer business such as golf and tennis and you can typically snag some great deals that way. Without knowing your ski style, weight, agressiveness, etc. it's hard to help pinpoint the exact binding that would work for you. However, I can make a few suggestions about what is currently available and what to look for. In looking at your current ski habits 50% groomer 50% park, my suggestion would be to look for something a little more light weight. Something that works great for groomers, but carry's a riser plate is going to be WAY too heavy for park skiing. So I would look for something that has as minimal rise as possible and bolts directly to the ski. Solomon still sells binidngs that do this as does Tyrolia. Skis.com is selling the Salomon LZ9 for 119 which is a good intermediate binding with a din running from 2.5 to 9. This din setting is going to be a bit soft for someone who really likes to hammer it hard, but will work great for someone who isn't SUPER heavy (200+ lbs) or TOO agressive. (http://www.skis.com/adult-ski-bindings/c458/salomon-lz9-ski-bindings-adult-2010-p181730.html) You could also look at Al's Ski Barn who carries the Salomon Z10 Freestyle/Freeride binding which might be a good option for you. At the top of your price range it's a good buy. With a DIN up to 10 this binding is similar in construction to the steps up, just with a lighter spring. As long as you are under 225, this is a GREAT binding for what you're looking to do. (http://www.untracked.com/p3099c26b39-10_salomon_z10_freestyle_freeride_ski_bindings.html) Similiar to the Salomon Z10 is the Tyrolia Peak 12 which is designed for a more agressive skier or someone who is a little heavier in weight. It is designed for all mountain, but does swing above your price range up to $180.00. Tyrolia also offers the Peak 11 if you're a little lighter and Al's had it for like 100 buck. (http://www.untracked.com/p2702c26b52-09_tyrolia_peak_12_freestyle_freeride_ski_bindings.html) I also agree with the guy above that if you were JUST doing park, I'd center mount. But if you're going to be doing all mountain or half your day, I'd certainly look to back them up 2 cm. OR center these and try to find a pair of skis on ebay for 100 bucks and have 2 pair! 2 is always better than 1! Enjoy the summer and best of luck next winter.
