Why do other countries celebrate Independance Day?

Why do countries celebrate Independence Day?

  • For countries that achieved independence from foreign rule decades ago, why are Independence Days still celebrated with so much pomp and ceremony? Most of those foreign empires do not exist (in the same form) anymore, relationships between the countries have changed... If it is to honour freedom fighters, wouldn't a Veteran's Day be appropriate.

  • Answer:

To remind everyone that freedom and independence can be lost and should not be taken for granted.
