What can I do with Cloud Computing?

  • I know what is cloud computing, its features characteristics etc. I use AWS and GAE and many other cloud services. Now what's next? I mean what can I do with cloud computing. As after learning programming we program, what are the career options in Cloud Computing?

  • Answer:

Cloud computing is an architecture or a platform that permit use of other technologies that can store, retrieve, modify and distribute the data from hosted servers rather than from individual systems. There is no single thing that can be called cloud computing. Let's look at what are some cases of applied cloud computing. Google uses its cloud cluster to cache and process millions of webpages very fast using the map reduce technology something otherwise they would have needed mainframes or super computers.  (Distributed Data Processing) Facebook uses Haddop to manage the storage and processing of the billions of images and messages stored. (Storage and Communication) AWS S3 uses huge clusters to to store millions of TB of data and retrieve it in a moment. The data is replicated for high availability and well secured. Any company can get this same effect using tools such as RiakCS. (Virtually unlimited storage) Sites such as Reddit makes use of it to make sure they stay afloat under heavy traffic and also to store huge amounts of data. Starting up and turning off new instances and dividing the traffic between them allows them to keep the service running always. (Load balancing and high availability) Yet other groups such as Google Drive, Gmail, Google Mapmaker provide tools that directly run from yous browser and interact with the data on the server rather than bringing the data to your system and working on it.   (Web apps) and there are lot more of these. So depending on which part of these you are good at and have mastered you will be sure to make a good career. Hadoop is currently a rare and much needed skill that many companies are seeking to handle their data storage and distributed data processing. Things such as Riak and RiakCS and other distributed databases are in great demand as the data storage requirements of companies are growing and will continue to grow like fore ever. If you can master OpenStack, Eucalyptus, or PetiteCloud you could be working for companies that want to maintain their own private cloud or even start a new Cloud storage service. Engineering web-apps that can perform well on a cloud system is a equally challenging skill that is in great demand. And if you are just good with AWS, Linode and Digital Ocean instances and management, you can always manage the servers for people who want these services but are not sure about how to keep these instances working well. Cloud computing goes beyond a normal sense of 'thing' it is a mesh of too many stuff that you can get lost within in a matter of hours and stay there. But if you manage to master even some apart of it you have a great opportunities ahead.
