Why isn't Jozy Altidore on the roster for Villarreal in the Champions League?
-
on the official Villarreal website it says that Jozy isn't registered at Uefa to play in the Champions League group stages. What exactly does this mean? Does he have to go sign up to ...show more

Answer:
Each club must submit a 25-man roster prior to the start of the group stage. Since UEFA rules restrict the number of foreign players on each team for the Champions League and because Jozy hadn't made his debut yet with Villareal at the time, the club decided not to include him on it's roster. If Villareal makes it to the knockout rounds by finishing in the top half of their group they will be able to submit a new roster, meaning Altidore might be able to take part in the Champions League then.
