How difficult is the AP Spanish Language exam?

How can you study for the AP English Language Exam?

  • I'll be honest and say that my AP English class is a joke. We pretty much do nothing and get little to no assignments to do. Sure, we've done a little AP review, like the ...show more

There are two sections: multiple choice(45%) and free response(55%). You get one hour to answer the multiple choice and 2 hrs 15 min to write 3 essays (15 min is just for reading the documents). See more format details at the site below. As far as preparation, grammatical terms are good to know, but they're not a major part of the test. Unfortunately, reading comprehension is a long-term development, not something you can cram this close to the test. However, you can save yourself with your essays. I recommend using Jolliffe's Rhetorical Framework Diagram to analyze and make your own arguments. It looks something like this... Exigence | Audience | Purpose | Ethos, Logos, Pathos | Organization/Structure | Diction, Syntax, Imagery, Figurative Language AP graders LOVE to see these words when you're analyzing another authors work and they like to see these sort of things when you make an argument of your own. I understand you concern about the subjectivity of grading the essays, but graders are given a very clear rubric. It is somewhat comforting to know that more than one person will grade your essays and must come to an agreement. Best of luck on Wednesday :)

Well, to prepare, its all about practice, practice, practice. In my class, our teacher was really cool and gave us AP stuff every week (either mc practice or an essay). He graded the essays on the AP scale, and for the mc, he took the average and made that the total score... so if you scored higher, you got extra credit. At this point in the game, I suggest you study by practing the multiple choice and by going over a list of rhetorical strategies. The format for the test is a 50-56 multiple choice section followed by 3 essays, an argument, rhetorical analysis, and, I forget what its called, but its basically an english DBQ (APUSH all over!). For the test, DONT psych yourself out. Try your best and let things go. If you do bad on the multiple choice, make it up on the essays. Im taking it this week too, so I wish you the best of luck.
