  1. Take a hot shower or bath. The hair follicles on your legs will soak up water and become softer, making it easier to get a smooth shave. 2. Pat your legs dry after your shower or bath. 3. Apply shaving cream to the first leg you are going to shave. Allow it to sit for two minutes to further soften the hair. 4. Pour alcohol over the blades of your razor before and after every use. This kills bacteria that can enter the hair follicles and create infection. When hair follicles become infected, they become red and swollen. 5. Use a sharp razor. Shave in the direction of hair growth, not against it. Never shave over the same area more than once as this will increase skin irritation to that area, and result in red bumps. 6. Apply an after-shave gel, such as Bump Patrol, to the leg after you have completed shaving it. Do not rinse the after-shave gel off. By leaving it on the skin, it will moisturize the skin and prevent the development of red bumps on the legs. 7.
