Can you drop out in 9th grade?

I feel like I want to drop out of public school and be homeschooled until 9th Grade. Is this a stupid thing?

  • 9th grade for me is only 8 months always.., is this right to do? I have had it with my school system!

  • Answer:

For the 928th time - homeschooling and online schooling are two different things, regulated by two different sets of laws. Homeschooling is where a parent accepts legal responsibility for their child's education, creates a curriculum and teaches the child themselves. Online school is public school at home unless you live in one of the 21 states that prohibit online education, then it is considered private school that your parents pay for. And yes it's important to know the difference. A certain online school promotes themselves as homeschooling even though they are a public school. They are failing to educate the students enrolled. By calling themselves homeschooling instead of public school that failure will reflect on homeschoolers - who, by all accounts are successful - instead of public education. And to be quite honest - homeschoolers do not want a reputation of failure. Lets start calling these things by their correct names. to answer your question - your parents should select the educational choice that best fits your family's needs and your educational needs.

No it's not a a stupid thing But I advise you to get started on looking at home schooling programs now and sitting down with your parents and talking to them about it. If you just jump into homeschooling and don't know what entirely you're getting into then well you'll be in trouble. Just do a lot of research and make sure it's what you want to do because it is a big decision and if you don't make the right decision you could mess up your schooling. So just to research on it. Hmm, just consider the pros and cons. You wont get to make friends and stuff if you stop going to public school, unless you join a co op class for homeschoolers. >< I could go on and on. But just make sure you know that you're getting into with homeschooling before you do it. If you do do it I suggest that you do an online homeschool where you have teachers and stuff that can help you if your family can afford that. If you do an offline school make sure you have help, if you don't you're out of luck. >< Good luck!!

Well first of all, switching to homeschooling is not dropping out of school. Homeschooling is a legal and legitimate educational option. So if you've had it with your school system, what's going to be different in 8 months?
