Air Travel Safety: What are some tricks to forward small goods to your next destination not suitable for carry-on luggage?
-
Say I have some stuff which is not suitable for airline carry-on travel. I travel with carry-on only otherwise. Small gadget can be: - an electronic (health) device (very small & light) which the X-ray detects as suspicious (but expensive so you do not want to trash it) - I like shaving with a straight razor (and it is a gap year, very long trip and I don't want irritations from safety razors) - think about your own addition to the list, I would like to see them in the comments I would like to forward it to my next destination. There are obviously 2 ways: - Somehow in the aircraft. The usual way is to check it in but as it is a very small box it will be be easily lost, cost much, etc. I heard you can give small things to the flight attendants or pilots to take care of. Though it might depend on your elite status level with the airline or being it a low cost or legacy carrier, it may or may not work. - Forward it to an address to your next destination: the obvious thing to do is to forward it to your hotel but what if you want to keep things flexible and did not book your hotel yet? Can you post it to the office of your airline, or any random airline, travel agency, hotel (you did not book with) but talked to and they do it for you as a courtesy? Tips, tricks, experiences? Edit: considering 's answer I travel with carry-on not (only) because it is cheaper but you do just do not check your valuables including electronics, nicer clothes as best practice, right? Edit 2, considering 's answer - The health device is more like a wellness device not a medical prescription device. But even if it were that and I brought a prescription on-board: are there any written procedures in aviation if I have some paper they do not trash my device which they would trash otherwise without paper? - I am sure you can buy a quality straight razor in Durres but I was convinced it is less hassle to ship it in. Especially I am concerning about the hassle not the money. Even I have a straight razor with replaceable (special) blades (I bought it online shipped from overseas with regular shipping time). But good finding good ones in (city X). Time is money as well.

Answer:
Could you buy straight razors at your destination? Usually buying things at a destination saves on stress and shipping. Also, if you have a doctor's note or other written explanation of the medical device (especially in a few languages) I imagine it wouldn't be an issue.

What about using a luggage service like Luggage Forward? It's a little expensive, but they do door to door. In India, they will take to the customs office, which could be a pain, but not in some other countries.
