The best all around classic game is Scrabble. It is a wonderful way to learn vocabulary and how to spell. My mom raised us playing Scrabble. She only allowed us to use a word IF we could tell her what it meant. We had to use a dictionary. It was a great way to learn.

Sometimes the most boring games in the world are the ones intentionally designed to be educational. Used in moderation, they can retain value. But ultimately, there is much more value in a game designed for entertainment that just happens to facilitate some education or logical thought. Look for games that will require students to read on or above grade level. Look for games that tax memory, logic or strategy. Look for games that have a level of complexity that will challenge your kids. In fact, take your kid to the toy store, and walk them through the game aisle. Write down all the games that excite the kid, then go back and determine which of those would provide the most educational value. Your kid will generally learn more from the entertaining games than from the directly educational ones.

I am a parent and i find that the games are a great way to trick my kids so to speak into learning. They think they are just playing and then you get to stand back when they realize hey! 3=2 is 5 Mommie we just did that in the game at home! Another great type of game id Cd-Roms. They are more available to me where I live. It also helps them not only learn their shapes, ;etters, and numbers, but also how to interact with the PC, which as things go today will become a valuable bit of info for thier future.

They're great learning tools. Ask any public school teacher. They know. Not only do they know, they've probably been doing it for many years, and have much experience and expertise in this type of education. SEND YOUR KID TO SCHOOL!
