I also recently took my daughter out and have done an immense search for her as she is bright as well...This is what I have found and what works for US...I am using old fashioned education as my base line for what is to be done on a daily basis..It is christian and classicaly based (classical) follows a timeline with history and follows the Trivium..Grammar,Logic,Rhetoric It is Also FREE! Just print off..you can use alone or other programs like I do..I also use A2 ($99.00) which is also k-12 and provides rigourous cuuriculm that is 3 R's self teaching based.. that you print off as well..As a side note all books to be read are NOT Politicaly correct,Abridged or revisionist veiws....I also incorporated RC's views in how she learns.....sounds like a lot of work but it's not!!! Because it's all self teaching the most I have to do is print everything out... In regards to your daughters Dyslexia I highly recommed Don Potters website which is also FREE that is Three R's based(reading, writing and arithmatic) And deals with your specific issues..Don't be intimidated by his site just start clicking and READING everything.....When using "OFE" don't feel that you have to stay in the 5th or 6th grade curriculum MIX and MATCH to HER level.....I know lots of info....I have so much more to give you....But don't want to over load you! Please go to my Home school Blog and click and read ALL of my different links... maybe all MY searching and hard work will make it easier for you! Blessings...sarah

I love Sonlight. It is kid of expensive but it is so worth the cost. My daughter asked to try something different next year so we are giving Switched On Schoolhouse a try. It is very Christian but I think the Science program may need to be supplemented a bit. They only teach Creation which is fine but they need to know the facts about evolution as well so that they are prepared for the world view. So we are sticking to Sonlight's science. Sonlight involves a ton of reading. Since she is Dyslexic she may read very slowly but she will definitely learn to read better than she is now. My daughters' (also Dyslexic) reading has improved so much since we started this program 2 and a half years ago. She loves the Grammar Ace Program they have. That comes with all the "School House Rock" songs that they played on Saturday morning TV. The songs have helped her so much with her grammar. The LA program with Sonlight is good. We skip the dictation they have in it but only because she has a really hard time with it. Instead I write it out on the dry erase board and deliberately put mistakes in it. She has to find and correct the mistakes. The mistakes are anything from words spelled wrong, put in the wrong order, to missing punctuation. For math we use Math U See. It encourages the kids to use a set of blocks and build every problem for as long as they need it. The lessons are short and to the point. Very rarely do they need more help from me to learn it.
