Hi, I am currently finishing off my college course - BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care Learning and Development Level 3. If you are doing a level 3 course you would be able to work in a pre-school, a nursery, a childminder/childminder assistant and I think a teaching aassistant as well. You do not have to go to Uni to work in a pre-school etc, as most places want practitioners at a level 3. I have got a job in a pre-school and I love it. In 2 years time, I am planning to go to the Open University to do the Foundation degree and get my early years professional status. I can stay at home and do most of my work at home, as well as working at the same time. If you do want to get a degree, this will be the best option for you. As for wages, it will start low because of your age and position. But if you will be at a level 3 is should be around £7 per hour. I am currently on £6 per hour because I am 17 and currently not qualified. However, in September I will be 18 and qualified and have been told that I will be earning £7.30 per hour. If you do want to work in a pre-school or nursery you will also get school holidays off which is a bonus!! Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck! xx
