  • Answer:

There are afew independent places that do pumpkin .. loads that do spinach, I'm surprised the big chains don't do spinach. Spinach is good - I've never tried pumpkin though.

Low end pizza @ Dominos (NO E, btw) and Pizza Hut w/roasted pumpkin & spinach as toppings? I don't think so. To each his own taste buds, but, YUCK[.]

Health nuts wouldn't be eating at Pizza Hut or Dominoes to begin with. Their crusts are made with a ridiculous amount of extra crap, and their sauce has MSG. Pigs are not Native to north America.

I could do spinach on my pizza, but not pumpkin.

If they thought they would have a market for it they would. Write to them and suggest it. If others do they will offer it even if in only selected areas

The one I goes to offers spinach on their pizza. But roasted pumpkin sounds weird!

I like tortelli di zucca con burro e salvia (pumpkin filled pasta with a butter & sage sauce), but I wouldn't particularly want it on pizza. I expect that the chains don't see a profit in offering those options for toppings. You can always suggest it though.

I do not think they add pumpkin...only spinach

Pumpkin has been stereotyped as a one-part-of-the-year dish. They could have pumpkin pie all year, but most places only have it from October to December, associated with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. So your answer as to why they don't do it has to do with the limited, stereotyped thinking of marketing people, and the influence these people's decisions have on public taste. I think there's a place for an indie pizza restaurant that has more and wilder toppings, including those you mention. There's a small restaurant chain now called Tom + Chee that specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. I thought I was the only person on the planet who puts potato chips in sandwiches, but you can get that at Tom + Chee. My point is, no matter how people answer here, you can't be the only one who likes interesting toppings that go beyond what all the chains carry. I'd encourage you to look into opening a specialty pizza place.
