Where do computer viruses come from?

  • Do all viruses come from the internet?

  • Answer:

Some criminal (with knowledge of computer programming), writes a virus that is designed to do a certain task - for example, steal bank details when entered into websites. They embed it in a program or a file and make it available to download - labelling it as something that the consumer may 'need', like an extra video plugin or a "virus" scanner. Once the .exe is run, the virus is installed to the computer and is then a parasite - getting progressively deeper into the system, therefore making it harder to remove.

While most virus do come from the internet there has been cases where memory cards and cpu's can have malicious code on them. Generally if you stay on well known sites and have a anti-virus program you will have minimal problems. some good anti-virus programs are Microsoft security essentials and avg free.

Viruses come from whoever made them, it's easier to spread them on the internet but they don't have to come from there. I could make a virus, attach it to a file, and give it to you on usb or even create it on your own computer when you're not using it. It's man-made.

They come from assholes who want to mess up your computer and trick you somehow into downloading/installing it.
