How do people find out your IP address?

If people know your computer's IP address can they find out where you live?

    they absolutely can. But of course it really just lists where your ISP's closest server is or something like that so mine says I live in a city a bit north of here. Also if you're using a proxy server, that totally fakes them out in most cases and it will list where the proxy server is instead.

They can find out many things about you including where you get your internet from could be within 5km or less, what internet browser you use, what operating system you use (xp,vista,mac). but they cant really track you down with it. Whenever your computer connects with something else they both share information through the ip address. say you go to a website, the website can see your ip address. you send a file in msn they can find you ip address.

They can find the location but not the exact address. How they found out your IP is simple, chat room, forums, your sending emails, your wireless. try to be cool dont suspect anything.
