  • What is the greenhouse effect and how is it related to global climate change? What activities are responsible for producing greenhouse gases?

  • Answer:

Some gases in the atmosphere like water vapour, carbon dioxide, ozone ,methane, nitrous oxide etc trap the heat in the lower layer of the atmosphere from escaping into the outer space thereby making the air near the surface always warmer. If the amount of these gases increase in the atmosphere that may increase the average global surface. At present the average temperature is 15 degree Celsius. It has been estimated that the temperature would have benn -18(minus 18) degree Celsius if these gases were not in the atmosphere.Mainly burning of fossil fuels contributes to the increased activity of the greenouse effect leading to global warning
