  John S makes some worthy observations, but on a practical level a 17 year old young lady is probably best advised to seek out whatever local opportunities may be available, and to try to gain as much educational experience as possible. From a career perspective, theatre and film are extremely difficult fields in which to make money. In the US, there are Tony and Oscar winners teaching at colleges and universities because they can't make a consistent living wage otherwise. And talent, while helpful, does not necessarily mean that you will achieve any financial success. There is no magic formula. Your chances of becoming a "good director" are as good as anyones, but it doesn't happen by "chance", it happens with hard work and more hard work.
