How To Build A Resume?

How to build a strong acting resume?

  • I do not have very much on my acting resume at all, I have been in 2 plays at my school. I have taken several acting classes. What kind of things can I do to add to my acting resume, ...show more

  • Answer:

Continue doing school plays. You should also take acting classes outside of school (if possible). Check out local colleges and universities to find out about auditions for student films. Read as many books on acting as you can (I highly suggest reading books by Stella Adler, Jack Poggi, and Ute Hagan). Audition for community theatre shows. Your first goal should be to build up a resume that includes both training and experience. Once you have a resume built up, you should get headshots taken. After getting headshots, look for auditions on www.actorsaccess.com, www.backstage.com, and http://www.filmtelevisionauditions.com/. These websites have great information on tons of auditions. Once you have a headshot, resume, and some professional experience, you can begin your search for an agent. An agent, as you probably know, will help you find more auditions. Be wary of scams. You should NEVER pay an agent any up-front costs. In order to find legitimate agents, go to the SAG website: http://www.sag.org/content/find-agent

there are open call things you can do like local theater and student and ind. films. these are open calls a parent can get you on.any acting part you get as a principal actor, either amateur or professional can go on a resume. you can't just make stuff up. look in your phone book for community theaters. any colleges near you that have film programs will have student film opportunities. look in your newspaper classifieds for ind. film auditions. this question should have come up in your acting classes.

First, expect it to take years to do. Two plays is a very very weak resume and the entries strength depends on the place the play was done, what the play was and what your role was. Acting classes only count if they are from respected acting studios or schools. Nothing that is not specifically acting (choir, speech activities, awards, etc) goes on a resume. Only the acting you have done, the professional classes you have had and related skills such as singing, dancing, riding, dialects, etc.

DON'T LIE!! Put all your classes, put all your shows, put everything. Put choirs, put school plays, put church plays, put everything you've done, just make sure it looks nice, so many casting directors have seen people lying about their resumes all day during an audition, and seeing one that's not lied about is a refreshing change for them, as long as your resume shows what you've done and that you have talent, then it is fine. Whatever you do. DO NOT LIE!!!!!!!
