How to rent a scooter in Rome?

Is it worth it to rent a small (50 cc) scooter in Rome for two months?

  • I'll be in Rome for two months, and I'd like a way to get around quickly and explore. What kind of license (if any) do I need? (I don't have a driver's license) Which roads am I allowed to drive on, and how much access will the scooter give me? How dangerous is it? How does renting and insurance work and how much should I expect to pay?

  • Answer:

Hello, unfortunately to drive a scooter in Italy it is compulsory to have a driver license. Without it you cannot rent a scooter! Anyway if you will stay in the city center it is very easy to move around with the public transportation.

No, unless you are an extremely good rider. And even if you are a good rider, it is extremely dangerous, because of Italians' disregard for traffic rules. Stay away.

Riding a scooter in Rome is incredibly rewarding and cost effective. There is no better way to get around the city. There is talk of 'danger', but it is an open city road, there will always be danger whether you're driving, scooting, biking, or walking. You do need a driver's license to get a scooter. So in your particular instance, maybe you should just get a bike.
