What kind of fishing rod and reel should I get?

I dont know to much of surf fishing but get something easy to cast and light. Stay away from shakespear products. The reels are as updated as they where in 1800s when they came out. Buy: Daiwa St.croix Shimano Abu garcia Lews And thats about it Most of there products are great.

For salt water fishing,you really can't get better than Penn,they've been making quality stuff for a very long time,try to find some older gear,as this was made in the USA,with craftsmanship the whole way through,the new stuff isn't made in the USA except for the international line,and those will cost you a bundle,I like the spinfisher spinning reels,model 704z,and the newer slammer reels are good as well as the rods for surfcasting,the pursuit line is also good and fairly inexpensive,just check out the full lineup,they have new models for virtually every fishing situation you will encounter,Stay away from any shakespeare product,they are cheap made in china stuff.Shore fishing,you'll need a ten footer or even longer,and the reel should be for at least fifteen lb. test or more,because the rocks and stuff you'll be dragging in the line over.You'll want it to cast a good fifty yards,so make sure the spool is full.
