How do I catch bluegill in the winter?

What is the best time of day to catch big bluegill?

  • me and my friend are both trying to beat out state record on the biggest bluegill caught, so what is the best time to catch the monster bluegill

  • Answer:

I will get not bites in the early morning until like 10 then the its like they turn on a switch and they all start biting. but usually they stay together so if u dont get a bite in like 2 min then cast somewhere else until u find them because when u do they bite right away.

Try low light conditions as well as a wind.

You can literally catch them consistently all throughout a day. They're not picky fish by any means. Bluegill fishing is what I always resort to if the Bass aren't hitting, and I nearly always catch loads of them regardless of the time. Something that I have noticed is that most of my big Bluegills have came out when fishing deep. You'll normally see quite a few on top, but the majority of them are small to average sized fish. Get you a jig with a grub or even a Crappie Jig, and fish it up and down off of the bottom fairly slowly. You should be able to get some pretty good quality fish in this way.
