Do wrestling shows that expose the business help or hurt the wrestling business in any way?
-
The shows I'm talking about are shows such as NXT, Tough Enough and to some extent, Reaction. I'm aware that most people know that wrestling is "worked", but does it ...show more

Answer:
Personally I don't think shows like NXT or Tough Enough hurt the business.. I don't think NXT hurts the business at all since all the guys and now girls involved are actually trained and highly qualified professional wrestlers.. not like Tough Enough which is the "Average Joe" getting a shot at getting a WWE Contract.. I don't think NXT hurts the business at all.. and I don't think Tough Enough does either.. I mean yes it does "expose" wrestling.. but realistically.. it's not a well kept secret.. I mean the rest of the world is convinced "wrestling is fake and gay" and the average fan is aware it is scripted.. if anything I think a show like Tough Enough shows the people that say wrestling is stupid and fake that yeah it is scripted but it does actually require a lot of training and takes a lot of hard work etc. taking a "bump" in that ring is like getting into a little car accident.. it doesn't kill you but it does hurt you.. professional wrestlers suffer from a lot of chronic pain and Tough Enough shows that to regular people.. BQ- Personally I would rather the WWE air FCW to the rest of the world instead of just those who are living in Florida.. I think it gives people a chance to see the young talent.. and honestly the WWE can air FCW without FCW having to have anything to do with the WWE main roster, storylines etc. it can just be what it is.. the training grounds for the younger guys and girls.. etc. I think airing FCW makes more sense than having NXT because airing FCW will give people a chance to grow a fan base for these guys.. and it will make it easier for fans to accept their transition to the WWE.. instead of the WWE having to shove these young guys down everyone's throat trying to get them over etc. I think airing FCW would be better for the fans because personally I would love to see it.. better for the wrestlers to get use to the pressure of being seen by millions of viewers around the world.. and I think it would make the WWE more money...

In the long run, yes....its does hurt the business. Wrestling fans used to be able to suspend their disbelief, and at least feel that what they were watching was real. Granted, every wrestling fan over the age of 9 years old knows wrestling is a work, but do you really want to be slapped in the face every 5 minutes with a reminder that what you are watching is fake? I sure don't. That's why I can't even get into wrestling at all anymore, because they do not even try to make it seem real anymore. All logic and realism is thrown completely out of the window, so that they can have their little comedy bits and there super hero's. Why do you think the UFC stealing WWE fans away left and right? Because all the promos and characters they have, seem real. BQ - Yes. NXT is just boring. Its served its purpose already by creating Nexus, lets just get rid of it and air some FCW. I mean c;mon, how entertaining is 7 nobodies and an indy star for 4 months straight....real exciting. (Or in NXT 3's case.....8 nobodies)

I don't think they really hurt it. The general populace (outside of the kids) are aware that its scripted and continue to watch anyway. Plus, according to ratings, not many people are really watching NXT or Reaction haha. BQ: I'm actually kind of fond of NXT, in a love/hate sort of way. One advantage to doing NXT instead of FCW is that the NXT rookies have more experience than the true rookies of FCW and they also have the ability to put the bigger stars on NXT as the pros to boost ratings, plus they have the advantage of picking a character and going with it instead of tweaking things as they go like in FCW. No clue why FCW isn't aired outside of Florida...though I'm assuming its just a matter of them not being notable enough to get a nationwide TV deal.
