So.... what does it mean? I've heard the term before but I have never understood what is stands for.

This has two meanings as far as I know, there could be others 1) Fubar.com it is like myspace. It is a virtual bar that is open 24/7 You have to create an account and then you log in to hang out with others in the fubar 2) it can mean "****** up beyond all repair/recognition" Did you ask your son where he heard this???
