X2. Carb has dirt in the metering system, and possibly a torn diaphragm. You could try revving it up, and slamming the choke flap shut while the throttle is open. You can do it for about 1-2 seconds. It will pull vacuum through the fuel metering circuits and potentially flush any dirt out of them.

The main jet in the carb is plugged, a piece of that junk you saw more than likely got past the screen and has clogged the carb, hence the reason it will only run with the choke on.
