  • Answer:

Health insurance - once you leave employment, you will be offered COBRA if your company qualifies. This allows you to pay for the insurance for up to 18 months. If there are over 20 employees, your company qualifies. Some states, like Califonria have programs for companies with less than 20 employees. STD insurance - you will not be required to pay this back when you leave the company. In fact, in many situations, you would continue receiving this money until you are able to return to work. Contact the STD insurance company for details.

Nothing happens to that short term disability pay, it's still yours. As far as returning for a set period of time, most of the time, it's one day, but you'd have to call your insurance and ask how it works. You'd owe them for any health insurance they paid, though, while you were out on disability.
