Has anyone working for Aflac tried selling Life Insurance door-to-door? Any luck?
-
I am considering going door to door (residential) trying to sell Aflac Life Insurance. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went for you.

Answer:
No one sells life insurance door to door anymore, least of all AFLAC. AFLAC's market is supplemental coverages to employees of client companies. As one poster wrote, you'll be primarily calling on small business owners. Your pitch to get in the door will be that you can set up their cafeteria (IRS Part 125) employee benefits plan free of charge, and offer their employees a wide range of additional benefits at no cost to the company. You will be truly saving the company hundreds or thousands of dollars per year and offering the employees options they would otherwise not have. Chances are, you will fail miserably within your first year; but if you succeed, you will likely be into a six figure income within three to five years. It is a fine way to earn a very good living, but it is tremendously difficult early in one's career; and there are much more conventional places to start one's career in the financial services industry.

Your only luck is the name recognition of Aflac, but your still not going to get as many bites as you think. And while you might get excited about a few sales, be careful about free-look clauses in whatever state you are selling. Its a tough job; generally, you are going to make our profession look like used car salesman.

Man, unless you are hopeless and desperate, I would devote your time to continuing looking for a job. I believe you would be calling on small businesses. First, there is so much confusion and uncertainty about Obama-Care that employers are not going to be interested in adding new health/life coverage. Second, employers are not going to saddle employees with an added expense in this economy. If they are suggesting door to door to individuals, that would be even worse. Door to door selling does not work in today's society. People are much too private and will not invite a stranger into their house.
