you need to be careful. you mention "professionally" but most professionals do not edit a photo very much... they will when needed or minor edits, stuff that could be done with film in a darkroom.. but you dont want to overdo it... with that in mind if your serious about being a good photographer or becoming a pro then i recomend lightroom from adobe and lynda.com for training. you can also find lynda.com videos on youtube.
