Answer:
At your age you can only stay in a youth hostel, of which there are plenty and which are safe. See the following site: http://www.bvjhotel.com/ Bear in mind that not all youth hostels do individual rooms. The CIP Louvre one, though cheap, does not do single rooms. The BVJ quartier Latin is not very far from the Ile de la Cité and the Louvre, centrally placed, and does have single rooms at 40 euros each. Here is a comprehensive site with other Youth accomodation in central Paris: http://www.parisbreak.co.uk/food/youth_hostels.asp I have used the two at the bottom of the list on many occasions with students your age and they were delighted. Ref : your added question Most hotels refuse to take minors that are not accompanied by a responsible adult and the benchmark is 18. With regard to hiring an appartment the same applies.

Are you going by yourself? Or is some friend coming with you? I usually prefer to rent apartments or studios instead of taking an hotel room. You can cook by yourself in an apartment and save a lot and the cost of an hotel room is more or less the same then a studio. The company I use has several studios in Montmartre and some of them are really inexpensive and if you rent for two months in a period which is not high season (ex. not in December or September/October) such as August, November or February you might have some good discount too. Here is the link to their site: http://www.paris-apartment-rent.com
you probably won't want to hear this, but i suggest you go with someone, because paris is not a place for a 17 year old to be alone. you can get taken advantage of, etc. Go with a friend who is 20 +, and if you are staying for 2 months, i suggest renting an apartment. You can rent a 2 bedroom apartment in the heart of paris for much less than staying in a cheap hotel for that long.

Yep - you can only stay at youth hostels. Hotels require that you check in with an adult.
