What is the difference between HOLLAND LOP and MINI LOP bunnies?

Is there any difference between the Holland Lop and the Mini Lop? And, what is the friendlist breed of bunny?

  • I've never had a bunny before, but we are thinking of getting two, maybe three. Should we keep them together in one cage, or in seperate cages?

  • Answer:

You might want to start with one ... not to say you won't be the most responsible bunny owner ever, but I think it's generally a better idea to start with one so you know what kind of time commitment you have to have with one bunny ... as well as financial commitment ... just a suggestion!

The Holland lop is a dutch breed also know as the Netherland Dwarf Lop in some areas it is the smaller of the two breeds developed through breeding papilons, netherland dwarfs and French lops to miniaturize the rabbit. The ears are shorter than the Mini lop The mini lop, also know as the Dwarf lop is larger than the Holland lop I keep large and small breeds. I find that the bucks are more laid back, especially after neutering, the does can be territorial when reaching maturity and need neutering as soon as they are mature, even when bought up from young together some sisters do not get on. If you want a pair of rabbits go to your rabbit sanctuary and ask to re home a buck and a doe to live together. They will help you find a pair that is compatible and your rabbits will be vet checked and neutered. You will get better advice than from a pet store. All rabbits should have company, they are sociable animals. I advise not to get 3 rabbits if you do not have knowledge of rabbits and handling difficult situations as by adding an extra doe to the group(never an extra buck) they may all end up fighting as you are breaking the bond between a pair. Grouping rabbits needs experience. I also suggest that you get a book on rabbit breeds and keeping before purchasing anything so you know what you are in for.

http://www.milkhouselops.com/ http://www.threelittleladiesrabbitry.com/ those are mini lops and holland lops and the friendliest breed is a Havana. u could leave them be for a whole year ( i recomend u dont) and they would still be very sweet. here are havanas http://www.rabbitandcavydirectory.com/Breed_Gallery/Havana.htm u could keep two females together but not two males. two males will most likely kill each other. or u could keep a speyed female and a neutered buck together.
