  • Answer:

A Sony with only one HDMI in? it must be a small model and only 720p for its native resolution. So here is my thought if that is the case. Hook one up via HDMI and one via Component video. This is only the case if your set is 720p native (check manual or include model number detail). Reason is that you wont see a difference in quality between HDMI and component at 720p. Now cables are too hot a topic to discuss here. Monoprice and Bluejeans trolls always like to bash Monster, where I on the other hand am of the school that you audition cables for your system. If they don't make enough difference in quality for the price then I scale back. Use my 10% rule for cables. 10% of total system cost is your ceiling for interconnects unless you have a specific concern. Problem is with HDMI cables is that the cables are only made by 2 manufactures and 7 for the terminations. Not much to choose from but there are some good makes out there mostly audioquest, etc. Problem is your PS3/ X box is not up to needing such a cable.

What you need, if you want to use HDMI for both the xbox and ps3, is an HDMI switcher. A manual one costs less than $20, one with a remote less than $30: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10110 But if you use the component video output on the xbox, you won't need a switcher. You will definitely want to use HDMI for the ps3 for the best Blu-ray picture. Here is a component cable for the xbox, if you don't already have one: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10830&cs_id=1083001&p_id=3706&seq=1&format=2 An HDMI extender simply boosts the signal, which is usually needed only for long runs, 50 feet or more. Don't worry about the quality of HDMI cable. It's digital, it either works perfectly, or it doesn't work at all. There is absolutely no difference in picture and audio quality between a cheap but adequately-constructed HDMI cable and the most expensive one on the planet. Any of these from monoprice will work fine: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10240
