  Your Bose sound sytem idea won't work for what you have planned. For under $300 you wont get much. You can buy a multiroom receiver for about $250 from crutchfield. That leaves you $50 for the remote. (asuming you have the speakers allready) You can get remotes that will operate up to 8 devices for under $60 at Best Buy. The less devices you need to control, the chaper they are. Get a universal that is easy to use and not confusing (Logitech may be overkill for what you are doing) The only thing that most Universals wont do (yet) are Blu ray players and DVD recorders. They will do just about everything else ( TV/LCD, CD Player, DVD, Receiver, cable box) So you need a 5 5 or 6 item remote. If you get a Receiver that is the same brand as your TV, some manufacturers remotes are universal and can operate some of the other devices. One suggestion is to use the universal remote when using the entire sytem is being used to watch movies. Use the actual receiver remote at the bar to control the zones when necessary.
