HD DVD Recorder record HD programming into HD form, and most likely only use Blu Ray or HD DVDs to record on. they are more expensive, but the quality is bar none. A DVD Recorder records regular standard definition TV in standard definition form, and uses regular blank DVDs. A dvd recorder with upscaling is for people with HD TVs, but no HD service. It takes standard definition TV and makes it look ALMOST HD. These also take regular blank DVDs.
