  Hey Joshua, The reason that you wont find many paid internships abroad is because most countries would simply hire local talent that will stick around with them for longer rather than foreigners. This is the obvious case in the U.S. and Europe because of the protective employment policies. So that narrows the search down for you to developing yet booming countries such as BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) who don't have as strict employment policies because they are experiencing an abundance of jobs. Now unless you can commit to like 2 years or more, even the employers in these countries might not be willing to compensate you. In India for example, no foreigner is allowed to get paid for work unless they are making the equivalent of $2,500 monthly paid by an Indian company. So Indian companies will generally hire a local who will work for $500 a month rather than have to dish out all that money to a foreigner who is only going to work for short-term anyway. Thus......you are left with doing unpaid internships. The only kinds of paid work you might be able to really find is Teaching English in S. Korea or China....but frankly that will do nothing for your career. I'm not trying to be negative but rather give you a better idea of what you're dealing with. So now not only do you need to do an unpaid internship but you have to pay someone in order to do it. This may sound crazy but it's because *someone* needs to find you a placement, organize your housing and food, be there as your safety net in case you get sick or something worse happens to you. A local company wont do all that for you...why should they when they can hire locals that need no maintenance, don't have to look for their accommodation, and health, etc.? So this is where these third party organizations come in that help you get your internship placement, help with visas, help with picking you up at the airport, and being there for you for safety and health reasons. There is no reason you should be paying $10,000 for 3 months...that's ridiculous. But you should budget around $3,500 for your placement, housing, food, and support system. Remember-you'd spend more than that in America or Europe per month anyway. I did an internship for 4 months in India last year which is why I know so much about it. If you're looking to get paid-forget it. However, if you're looking for good experience that will be invaluable to your career, your resume, and just an amazing life adventure....then you will find something easily. You can look at the cheaper option of Leave UR Mark, and they do set up placements in Psychology working with developmental disorders in children and adults.
