You will need a firewire connection, port and cord. Firewire cordes do not come with minidv camcorders, they should since that is the only way you can download the video.

Most of camcorder videos are MOD, MTS/ M2TS/ TS/ TRP formats, but only MP4 and MOV can be imported to Mac iMovie. Then you need to convert the camcorder video to iMovie supported vide.
