What are some good interests?

What are some good examples of the US acting selflessly on behalf of global interests?

  • US is said to intervene in oil producing nations because of its concerns about global security and stability in the regions that produce the world's oil. But it's hard to disentangle US's philanthropic motivations from its self-interests in these situations because such interventions/invasions clearly also benefit the US itself and the US would be doing exactly the same things if it only acted on its own behalf. What are some good examples of the US acting selflessly on behalf of the global community - cases where it didn't have a significant self-interest but it still spent a massive amount of money or took a significant amount of risk in order to fulfill its (self-assigned) duty as the world's police?
