    unfortunately lately RIM has been giving in to carrier pressures to release phones on a faster time table than what they are accustomed to. if you can remember the release of the blackberry 9530(aka Storm), in the beginning it was horrible and had many problems that needed to be worked out. these problems included faulty parts, sluggish OS, bad design. one year later blackberry released the 9630(Storm 2) and has since redesigned the phone to a true full touchscreen with slimmer lines and updated mechanics. I have had both phones and with a similar scenario facing your GSM counter product I would choose the 9700 over the 9000 since it is basically an improved design
