Do long distance calls charge the caller or the receiver?

How do I fix my cordless phone?The answering machine works, but the phone receiver does not charge ?

• the caller id doesn't work and I cannot make calls, I've had this problem for two phones how do i fix this? without buying a new phone? it's a uniden 900

  1 uniden phones suck.... with that out of the way... before you go out and buy new batteries (which probably will cost more then your phone is worth) check that the contacts on the phone, and charging base are clean... you can use an eraser from the back of a pencil or an emory cloth or very very fine sand paper to clean the contacts... remove the back door of the cordless phone and ensure the battery is connected tightly.. when you put the phone on the charging base there should be a light on the base indicating charging. allow the phone to fully charge overnight . 900 Mhz phones are insecure, and can be overheard with radio scanners, and can also be bought at radio shack and other similar stores for around $20... possibly less then the cost of replacement batteries... I would recommend getting a DECT panasonic phone...
