What should I be looking for when purchasing an HDTV?

Help with purchasing a 40" HDTV?

  • I'm looking into purchasing a 40 inch HDTV, probably LCD, and I had a few questions: 1. I have Cablevision, so in order to view all the channels correctly on the HDTV, I would ...show more

  • Answer:

    4. Your current Tivo (assuming it is a series 1 or 2 since you didn't specify and that is what it sounds like) should work the same way with one exception. It will record the HD channels but on playback, it will not be HD since those models can't record in HD. If you have or bought a newer TivoHD or Tivo Premiere, those models record and playback in HD. They will replace any cable company box. The Tivo is the cable box. You will need a cablecard from your cable company in order to watch all your programming though. It is free to about $4/mo depending on your cable company.

1. Yes 2. If your dvd player has red/green/blue component outputs, then the picture on an HDTV will be acceptable, s video won't look very good, but if the new tv has an S video input, try it and see. 3. Yellow, red, white composite cables should not be used with HD tvs, it's analog and will look bad. Again, see if your Wii has r/g/b component or HDMI outputs, thats what you should use. 4. I don't know about TIVO but HD tvs require r/g/b component or HDMI for HD sources. Happy Moms day.
