  For dish network, you used to be able to buy an adapter for your satelite receiver that upgraded you to receive HD signals. Then all you needed was the right tv and connections. If your current receiver is not an HD version, you'll likely need something like this or upgrade to the appropriate receiver. Otherwise, you'll still be getting the normal signal.
